There was an accident at the intersection near my house yesterday night. I was busy doing my report when out of the blue, I heard tyres screeching and a loud bang followed shortly after. Instinctively, I spun around and looked out the window to see a motorbike (Yamaha R1) on its side, with its rider lying still in the middle of the road. Not good.
It collided with the right side of a car (Toyota Picnic), and the rider seems to be okay as I saw him raise his arm to indicate that its not life-threatening. But still, you could see the disfigurement in his left ankle and shin. He was bleeding from the heel, and his feet was slowly drowning in his own pool of blood. Other than that, his upper body seems functional and he could turn his head to look from side to side.
I took some pictures, but decide not to post it out of respect for the poor rider. I hope he's doing okay and regained the use of his left leg. My prayers are with you bro. Anyways, nice bike and nice helmet. You got a nice colour scheme going on there.
That accident sent a chill down my spine, as myself, a rider, could be in a similar situation in a heartbeat. How good you are as a rider, you are just a sitting duck on the roads out there. Be it due to your own misjudgment, miscalculation, oversight or just plain laziness, the odds of motorcycles getting hit is lower than the odds of picking out a ten cent coin from your wallet. I pray everyday before I rev my Honda Wave 125, to keep me safe, ensure a smooth journey, and most importantly, I visualise the route that I'll be taking so as to avoid unnecessary detours.
I'm thinking of getting a high cut shoe to protect my feet during my rides. Maybe I'll be heading to Beach Road very very soon.... Ride safe my fellow riders!
