Why Our Voices Sound Funny After Sucking in Helium

I've seen this a lot of times. Man sucks in Helium, Man speaks, Audience around him break into laughter. Man is happy!

But how does it work? It has nothing to do with the vocal chords. Rather, it is just an increase in the speed at which sound travels in less dense mediums. In this case, Helium. (airships float thanks to helium)

Sound waves can also travel slower if you use something more dense than air. Here's a video that clearly explains how.
