Day #2 - 3rd July 2010
Location: Borivali Railway Station, Mumbai to Jodhpur
Distance Covered: ~ 935 KM
Total Distance Covered: ~1120 KM
We were to board Train No: 9065, 17 hrs 30 mins train ride that will take us to Jodhpur. Problem is, we only had 2 confirmed berths and 3 others on the waitlist. There were 5 of us! To make matters worse, the conductor told us that the 3 waitlisted berths were cancelled and the booking fee refunded! OMG. Still, we boarded the train and did not follow instructions. Not forgetting the part where Ho jumped off the train, rolled on the ground, and ran back up. Don't ask me why.
Anyways, the conductor was flustered to discover all 5 of us hanging around the toilet area. But he relented and mercifully told us to somehow squeeze into that 2 berths and remain quiet. Not before giving us a one times good one tongue lashing. "Mr Conductor! If you are reading this, thank you so much for your help!" He later gave us 3 other berths FOC when some passengers alighted along the way. Oh, and we bribed a train worker 300Rs to keep our backpacks in a locked cupboard.
We were on Class 2A for the long train ride. As you can see from above, there are 4 + 2 (unseen) berths in a 'square.' The unseen ones run parallel to the walkway that spans the length of the carriage. Sheets, blanket and a pillow are to every berth. Super comfy. Moderately clean. Air conditioning is full blast, so put on your Arctic gear!
On the train, I managed to get to know a radio presenter who works in Dubai. I am so screwed up cause I lost her name AND contact. ZzzZzZZzzZz. She's married though and was supposed to travel with her husband. =)
I just had to put that picture in for no apparent reason.
What a start to our Earth shattering backpacking trip! Stay tuned to find out the sights in Blue City Jodhpur!
