Backpacking India. Nashik to Borivali.

How did it all start with Nashik?

I was based in Nashik with 3 others as part of the Industrial Attachment programme. For 6 months, I worked in M&M's Nashik Plant I & II, made many friends and colleagues. During that 6 months from Feb to July, besides working, I visited other places such as Pune (202+ km South) and Mumbai (185+km South West). I was not alone however, there were 10 other friends based throughout India. Mumbai, Pune, Nashik, New Delhi and Chennai.

With the introductions done, let's start with some story-telling.

The journey started off from the company's plant. We took the 5 hour long shuttle service from Nashik to Borivali, Mumbai.

After 6 months, even my dressing sense got immersed Indian Style

I was sick of Indian food by then, having been on a vegetarian diet for the past 6 or so months. The only respite was the occasional Subway Club and MacDonald's Maharaja Meal on weekends. And no chai (Indian Garlic tea) for me either.

That hill is green during the monsoon season but dusty and brown for the rest of the year. The air in Nashik is very dry. Hunger was not in my mind at that point of time. The Nashik boys stopped by a condominium somewhere in Mumbai to check in. 2 of us were leaving for Singapore the next day, and that condominium was arranged for the night by the company.

Some hoo-hah occurred and some burly Indian resident got all PMS-SY. He shouted at us, and threatened to throw our bags away. Poor fellow tried to intimidate us 4 guys who doesn't give a damn. Pity him. Ho tried to calm him down but to no avail.

The company however arranged for another condominium nearby and we left the 2 halfway through the walk as we were running out of time to catch the train.

We were to meet up with the Mumbaikars at Borivali Station. Wonder how 5 people manage to get onboard a train with only 2 tickets?

Stay tuned to find out more...
