As you may (or may not) have known, I own a phone based on the Android operating system. It is a handy device, does what it is designed for, and a very powerful phone capable of a lot of things. You can edit pictures on it, at the same time playing your favourite songs, plus transfer a file via bluetooth to friends. Errrr, I guess the iPhone could do that too right?
I have to admit that the iPhone is a good buy. It is a great device for social networking, a modern marvel. The number of iPhones flying off the shelves provide enough evidence to support this claim. It is so great and user-friendly that even aunties and uncles are sporting them. But the begging question is, what stops people from hopping on the iPhone bandwagon? MrWiseGuy lists down the top 3 reasons why he avoid buying an iPhone...
That basically sums up my thoughts on the Android OS. I for one, love the game "Words" and "Tap Tap Revenge" on the iPhone. Its just a matter of time before the Android developers play catch up. And I'm a defiant individual who do not usually conform to social norms.

3) There are other MORE affordable equivalents
Think tech giants like Sony Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung, LG. These are the guys who help keep tech gadgets prices low. If ONLY Apple was in business, we would have to pay >SGD$50 for a simple mouse. Oh wait, they're already selling them at SGD$78! WTF?!
2) Android is Open
Based on what I have read so far on the internet and books whilst doing my Final Year Project, I have come to understand that Android is an open operating system based on Linux. Free doesn't necessarily means good, its just that information is readily available for you to develop an app. Have you come across the terms, 'Rooting' and 'Jailbreaking?' Apple go to great lengths trying to stop jailbreaking, while the Android OS updates makes no attempt to stop rooting. Its as if, creativity is discouraged on the iPhone side. As for Android, with more information hovering around, and a thriving developer community, apps get better and more stable. Which explains why I am having a tough time with my Symbian project. Urgh.
1) I hate big brother.
One thing for me, is the fact that I hate over-supervision. You cannot do this, you cannot do that. Do it this way, stick to it. This way is always better. Oh come on! A camera that allows only video calls over wi-fi? Non-swappable battery? No bluetooth? No thethering?
"No, you cannot publish that app cause we already have one in the store."
"No, you cannot publish that app cause it doesn't meet the standards."
Oh well, no such thing on the Android market.
