Linksys WRT54G as a Repeater Bridge.

If you are 8m++ away from your wireless router and walls are standing in your way of getting 5 bar signals, I HAVE THE SOLUTION FOR YOU. Presenting...

DD-WRT
DD-WRT is a Linux based alternative OpenSource firmware suitable for a great variety of WLAN routers and embedded systems. The main emphasis lies on providing the easiest possible handling while at the same time supporting a great number of functionalities within the framework of the respective hardware platform used.

The above link points you to an open source firmware that can be installed on a router. I managed to install the firmware on an old 4 year old WRT54G, reprogrammed it into a repeater bridge and voila! FULL strength signal in my room. Although theoretical data throughput suffers by approximately 50%, I'm more than happy to live with it than suffering dropped connections every few minutes. =)

So yeap, check it out and tell me how it went!
