In Debt

Debt and loans. Some of the dreaded words that revolve around life. Even in death, the imam handling the funeral will ask of the attendees to resolve all debts of the deceased with a family member. It is like a noose, wrapped around the neck ready to be pulled. And for some, death is an option to escape this vicious cycle.

However hard we try to avoid it, debts and loans has become a necessity in society. The ideas of leveraging and making money work harder for you seems a viable short term solution to fulfill life's shortcomings. One need not venture far to find good examples as it is evident in the houses we stay in, the cars we drive and tuition fees.

Today, I vow not to go around actively looking for debt. In other words, giving up to worldly desires and peer pressure. Why buy a bike when you have a fully functional one? Why take a loan to go on holiday when it means paying $200 every month for the next half year? Sure, that would mean taking years saving up to buy a bigger bike or car, its just that I do not want to life my life with "Hutang keliling pinggang."
